UP Cebu Design Program Concludes Successful DES/INYO 2026 Design Week at SM City Cebu
The University of the Philippines Cebu Design Program successfully concluded its annual DES/INYO 2026 Design Week, which was held from June 5 to 7, 2026, at SM City Cebu's Northwing.
For three days, the venue was transformed into a vibrant showcase of creativity, innovation, and purpose as visitors explored a diverse collection of works created by student designers from various year levels. The exhibit also featured outputs from the Design Program’s research laboratories—the Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) and the Materials Innovation and Experimentation (MATIX) Lab.
This year’s Design Week carried special significance as the UP Cebu Design Program celebrated its 20th anniversary, alongside the 10th anniversary of its Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab). The milestone highlighted two decades of excellence in design education and a decade of advancing innovation through fabrication and research.
Guests and visitors experienced a carefully curated exhibit walkthrough that provided an immersive journey through the showcased works. The guided itinerary allowed attendees to appreciate the exhibits as envisioned by the curators, creating a cohesive and engaging experience.
Centered on the theme
“RE•PORMA: Design as Rebuilding,” DES/INYO 2026 emphasized the role of design in reimagining and rebuilding communities, spaces, and systems. The exhibits explored how designers can transform fragments from the past into meaningful creations rooted in intention, justice, and care. The theme also underscored rebuilding as a collaborative process that draws from the collective knowledge, skills, and adaptability of both designers and the communities they serve.
Beyond showcasing student achievements, DES/INYO 2026 also served as an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about the UP Cebu Design Program and its academic offerings. Information about admissions for Academic Year 2026–2027 was made available to visitors interested in pursuing a career in design.
Aspiring designers were encouraged to take the Talent Aptitude Test (TAT), a requirement for admission to either the Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Product Design—a four-year degree program for UPCAT passers—or the Certificate in Fine Arts Major in Product Design, a three-year ladderized course open to non-UPCAT takers or passers.
The successful staging of DES/INYO 2026 reinforced the UP Cebu Design Program’s commitment to fostering creative excellence, innovation, and socially responsive design while inspiring the next generation of Filipino designers.
