Celebrating Sinulog 2026 with Seamless Payments and Stronger Local Businesses

Cebu City came alive once again as the Sinulog Festival 2026 filled the streets with color, devotion, and high-energy celebration in honor of the Santo Niño. Amid the music, dancing, and sea of festival-goers, GCash joined the festivities not just to celebrate, but to help power the moment for local businesses and communities.

Throughout the festival, GCash brought accessible digital financial tools closer to both merchants and consumers, showing how cashless payments can make a real difference during high-traffic events like Sinulog. With faster transactions and seamless QR payments, local nano, micro, small, and medium enterprises (NMSMEs) were able to serve more customers, keep up with the festival rush, and unlock new income opportunities.

Festival-goers experienced GCash through interactive booths and experience hubs across key areas in Cebu City, including the grandstand and parade routes. One of the crowd favorites was the mobile PisoCarts, where essential items were offered for just ₱1 when paid via GCash QR. These moments highlighted how digital payments can make transactions quicker, easier, and more convenient—even in the busiest festival settings.

Beyond the on-ground activities, the GCash Visayas team, led by Vice President for GCash Regional Business Unit Tania Gil Padilla, activated multiple touchpoints across the festival grounds to support both tourists and local merchants. These initiatives reflected GCash’s continued commitment to helping small businesses transition from traditional retail to a digital-first future.

As Padilla shared, GCash aims to make every Sinulog experience as seamless as it is vibrant—by weaving financial technology into the fabric of the celebration and empowering local entrepreneurs to become trusted financial hubs in their communities through GCash Pera Outlet Plus.

By bringing together culture, community, and cashless innovation, GCash reinforced its mission to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey toward a truly inclusive, “Finance for All” Philippines.

From Tradition to Transformation: MSMEs at the Heart of Sinulog

Husband-and-wife team Sol and John Paul Braceros of Ysabela Store in Mabolo, Cebu City, whose sari-sari store has grown alongside their community through digital financial services such as GCash. They were also able to purchase a family vehicle from the income of the business.

In Cebu’s communities, sari-sari stores and family-run businesses are everyday lifelines. During Sinulog, they become the frontliners of commerce—serving locals, devotees, and tourists in the middle of the city’s biggest celebration. By bridging traditional retail with digital finance, GCash helps these businesses not only keep up with the festival rush, but grow well beyond it.

One such story is Ysabela Store in Mabolo, Cebu City. What began nine years ago as a small sari-sari store run by husband-and-wife team Soledad “Sol” and John Paul Braceros has grown into a mini-grocery, fueled by their early adoption of GCash and GCash Pera Outlet Plus. Today, their store serves as a trusted financial touchpoint in the community, providing essential services like cash-in, cash-out, and bills payment—especially for families receiving remittances every payday.

Cindy & Nico Dried Fish Store at Taboan Market shows how digital payments are reshaping traditional family businesses serving Cebu’s iconic dried fish pasalubong

At Taboan Market, another family business is experiencing its own digital shift. Cindy & Nico Dried Fish Store, a long-time pasalubong favorite, now relies on GCash to meet the fast pace of Sinulog. For second-generation owner Cindy Bayon-on, cashless payments have become a competitive advantage, allowing quicker transactions for tourists eager to move from one festival highlight to the next.

“My parents founded this store years ago, and I joined them to help manage it two years back,” said Cindy Bayon-on. “After the pandemic, we started using GCash because customers kept asking for it. Now, especially during Sinulog, it’s been a huge help. Tourists buying pasalubong are often in a hurry to see the next event. With GCash, transactions are quick and hassle-free, and it’s convenient for our customers, which makes business much smoother.”

Stories like these reflect how digital tools can strengthen traditional businesses without changing what makes them local. By weaving financial technology into Sinulog, GCash supports MSMEs in serving their communities better—during the festivities and long after the final dance—helping ensure that progress is shared across Cebu and beyond.
